Renault South Africa has added a snappily dressed variant of the Sandero Stepway to the range – the new Techroad gaining a few design tweaks and upgraded standard features, while the entire range is also refreshed.
The exterior of the Stepway has bespoke design and badging with 16-inch two-tone Flex wheel covers with blue centre caps and Gloss Black door mirrors with distinctive design decals on B-Pillars and lower sections of the doors.
The Stepway offers enriched standard features, such side crash bags, front and rear power windows, electrically operated side mirrors, leather steering wheel and gear knob and rear park assist. Cruise control and navigation are also standard while leather seats are an option.
This latest model also offers a new bespoke upholstery design, which is totally on-trend, with distinct blue detailing on the seat design, and throughout the cabin.
The comprehensive Renault MediaNav, integrated on-board multimedia system with 7-inch” touchscreen also offers Smartphone Mirroring for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Stepway also boasts Rear Parking Camera, to facilitate the driver by alleviating blind spots in reverse mode.
With this introduction the Sandero range remains unchanged with Sandero Expression the entry level model, followed by a mid-level Stepway Expression derivative, with the New Stepway Techroad leading the line-up as the flagship model.
In addition to the front seat belts with load limiters and ISOFIX fasteners for child and baby seats, Sandero is the only car in its category to offer a three-point safety belt at the central rear seat.
The anti-lock braking system now comes with EBA which kicks in and automatically applies maximum brake pressure when emergency braking conditions are detected. Maximum pressure is applied from the onset of braking and remains until the anti-lock trigger threshold is reached. EBA shortens braking distance by up to nine metres at 120 km/h.
All variants are powered by a three cylinder, 900 cc petrol Turbo 66 kW engine. The engine, mated with a manual 5-speed gearbox offers maximum output of 66 kW at 5 250 r/min and peak torque of 135 Nm at 2 500 r/min of which 90% is available from 1 650 r/min.
Claimed fuel consumption is 5,2 l/100 km, with CO2 output at 119g/km (Sandero) and 124 g/km (Stepway).
The Sandero and New Stepway Techroad comes with Renault’s 5-yea 150 000 km warranty together with a standard 2-yea 30 000 km service plan. Services are at 15 000 km intervals.
