Colin-on-Cars – Ult.X heads for Sun City

No engines are involved but the combat on two and four wheels does get very hectic and fans of BMX and skateboard will be able to see 28 top action sports athletes strut their stuff at Sun City in September, backed by Suzuki Auto South Africa.

The 14th iteration of the Ult.X Festival is scheduled for September 3-5 in Sun City and Pilanesberg, where organisers will turn the bushveld into a spectacular backdrop for these two action sports. It will potentially host 500 guests at the resort, while the rest of Mzansi and the world can watch from the comfort of their homes on the web and on social media.

“At Suzuki we always look for opportunities to express the fun, youthful and ‘cool’ side of our brand. Combine this with our sense of adventure, and the picturesque landscape of the Pilansberg, and our involvement with Ult.X Festival seems to be natural fit.”

“Therefore, we jumped at the opportunity to partner with the organisers of Ult.X – and fellow partners Asus and Monster Energy– to jump-start live action sports after their long hiatus,” says Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

Over and above ‘being on the ground’, Suzuki will host a special online competition that will give two double eXperience packages to lucky winners an all-access pass to the event and all the experiences. Visit the social media links below and keep an eye on Suzuki’s social media channels to be one of these lucky winners.

The Ult.X festival will include live music with special appearances by the artists Jack Parow and DJ Speedsta, a golfing eXperience and other entertainment for the guests at Sun City. The highlight, however, is the African BMX and Skateboarding Championships, which will see pro-athletes like the skateboarder Khule Ngubane in action.

Both sports rank among the fastest-growing action sports in South Africa and the world. They both now form part of the Olympic Games and this African BMX and Skateboarding festival will be the first local appearance after the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 (taking place this year). It will also be the qualifier for next year’s Ult.X Flagship Event.

“The team at Suzuki is just as excited as the competitors, guests and our fellow South Africans to see the return of action sports after the long lockdown and restrictions. We hope that our sponsorship of the Ult.X Festival will not only help these action sports to get back on their feet but will kick-start a return to the fun and adventure that our Suzuki family is known for,” says Carpenter.

With the planning for the Ult.X Festival already far advanced, Ult.X and its organisers will ensure that all health and safety protocols are adhered to and that all spectators and competitors are kept safe at all times.
