Hyundai Mighty GT11: New Heavy Truck for SA Fleet Operators

Hyundai Automotive South Africa is bolstering its presence in the heavy commercial vehicle segment with the launch of the Mighty GT11, a truck aimed at distribution, logistics and freight operators.

The company is pitching the vehicle around total cost of ownership, with fuel efficiency, residual values and parts availability at the centre of its offer. Hyundai says the truck has been engineered to cut key ownership costs while improving uptime through its national service network.

Speaking at the launch at Zwartkops Racing Track in Centurion, Hyundai Automotive South Africa CEO Stanley Anderson said the approach was about giving operators more predictability in running and maintenance costs, which he described as an increasingly important consideration in transport.

“We are optimistic about the potential of the commercial vehicle market in South Africa and the Hyundai Mighty GT11 brings our strong heritage of reliability, innovation and quality into a segment where customers need vehicles they can depend on every day,” he said. “We want to build a meaningful presence and earn the trust and confidence of commercial operators.”

The Mighty GT11 runs a 3 760 cc Cummins four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 125 kW and 600 Nm, with peak torque available between 1 300 r/min and 1 700 r/min for strong low-speed pulling. Power goes through a ZF six-speed automated manual transmission.

Hyundai claims a 6-ton payload capability and an 11 000 kg gross vehicle mass, with a 7 780 kg allowance for body and payload and a 15 500 kg gross combination mass. The heavy-duty foundation includes a 7 600 kg full-floating rear axle and multi-leaf rear suspension, along with a dual-circuit full air brake system, anti-lock braking and a spring-operated parking brake. The three-seat cab has air-conditioning and dual front crash bags.

Johan Nel, sales director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, said aftersales support was a critical part of the company’s commercial vehicle strategy because downtime directly affects a business.

“The GT11 truck is backed by Hyundai’s warranty protection, trained technicians and genuine parts,” he said. “We want operators to have confidence in the truck as well as the support available throughout its working life.”

Hyundai frames the Mighty GT11 as more than a new product introduction, describing it as a strategic step into a segment where uptime, operating economics and aftersales support drive fleet decisions.
